Narnia Road Trip Day 8 – Safely Home December 23, 2023January 1, 2024Friday, December 22, 2023We are becoming breakfast critics. Today’s Embassy Suites omelets were good yet the Pittsburgh Embassy Suites breakfast won the first place award for hotel breakfasts on this trip.We left Columbia, South Carolina by 9am, the girls having slept in until 7:30. Catching up on sleep feels good.As we drove, we finished listening to Narnia book #5, listened to #6 – The Silver Chair, and are 2 hours away from finishing the last book in the series, The Last Battle. C.S. Lewis has woven beautiful tales which can also be read as faith allegories. Reading (listening to) the whole series within the span of a week helps tie them together, although they can be read separately and out of order.Traffic wasn’t bad (thanks to Gregg taking back roads) until we got on I-95 in South Carolina, near the Georgia border. Though we drove around 50mph, 95 has often been much worse. I suspect tomorrow will be a nightmare so it is good to have left a day early. We arrived in Jax around 2:30ish. Since Ladybug was scheduled to be with us until Saturday, she’s spending the night with us.After unloading the car, we returned the rental and ran errands – library, grocery store, and Michael’s for more yarn.I began making another lovie today as we drove, this one with Aunt Kitten’s colors. I hadn’t been able to find yarn that might look like her until Ladybug and I went to Michael’s in West Virginia. And this yarn was very thick, for making soft blankets. The pattern is the same as the lavender lovie, yet the size of the yarn is making her huge! Haha! I used both skeins of yarn I had purchased to make her head, body, and most of one leg. She may be too big to qualify as a “lovie” by the time she’s done. The soft yarn sheds and so my side of the car looked like it had snow which hadn’t melted. Too funny! I worked on Aunt Kitten some more this evening after supper while we listened to more Narnia. We made homemade ice tonight – chocolate with mini chocolate chips. Ladybug picked the flavor. Good choice! Thanks for joining us on our road trip! A fun time was had by all! I do apologize that email notifications were sporadic. The reason is a mystery which I hope to solve once I get back onto my computer instead of the cell phone. If you missed any posts (like Day 2 when I explained why we are calling it the Narnia Road Trip,) all posts can be found under the TRAVEL category on my website, www.KristinEmilyFriend.com.Tomorrow is my sister, Bryn’s, birthday.
