Narnia Road Trip Day 7 – Goodbye Snow & PA December 22, 2023January 1, 2024Thursday, December 21, 2023On our Narnia Road Trip Day 7, it felt so good to sleep until 8am. Then we hit the ground running. The car was mostly packed by 9:00 at which point we went to breakfast before saying our final goodbye to the snow and PA.Breakfast with NeighborsOur original plan was to eat with our next door neighbors tonight. But the school snow day resulted in rescheduling events so they weren’t available. But it all worked out because the four DeVincents, our next door neighbors, met us at Curt’s Family Restaurant for breakfast. So special!Buckwheat cakes are in season (buckwheat is harvested in the fall so it is a fall and winter food in the West Virginia area.) Curts made them nice and sour – just like Gregg loves them. We also bought a bag of Buckwheat flour so we can make them at home. The cherry on the top was Debbie, one of the owners and I’ve been in Bible studies with her, paid for all of our breakfasts. That was an unexpected, generous surprise. We returned to the house just long enough to put last minute things into the car and for Gregg to close up the house. He has a checklist including shutting off the water at the street, putting RV antifreeze in the toilets, and unplugging everything.Oh, and Ladybug made and thew one last snowball. She can now say with confidence that she has seen and played in snow. Yay!Goodbye Snow and PAWe were on the road by 11. We had planned to snow tube today but none of the runs are open until the weekend. Since both of our Thursday plans fell through, we decided to start our trek south today. It was fun to can see The Whisp ski runs from the route we took and we saw their tubing runs, too. We took small roads through Virginia for new scenery. It included a portion of the Blueridge Parkway. The Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance were beautiful. Our Narnia book binging continues. We finished Prince Caspian and have almost finished The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. There are two more books after this one.Car CrochetingI’ve been crocheting a cat amigurumi lovie for the girl and finished it tonight. She loves it! I let her pick the yarn and she selected a light purple.Tonight we are in an Embassy Suites in Columbia, South Carolina. It isn’t as nice as last night’s Embassy Suites. But this one is the classic style with the open center so you can see all the room doors. Ladybug was impressed. We’re all looking forward to eating made to order omelets/eggs for breakfast. How Cold Does it Feel Now?One last note. It is curious how heading north we were cold and didn’t want to leave the car without a coat. Today, we left our coats in the car to run into the gas station or fast food restaurant. Ladybug said it felt good, which she wouldn’t have said a week ago. Gregg heard a lady say it was so cold! I guess it is all in your perspective.Nighty night on the longest night of the year! Travels
