The Sugar Shack provided several surprises. First, it is connected to a gas station. No worries. Next, their flavor board said Hershey’s. Hum. They also have soft serve ice cream.
I asked if their ice was homemade and they confirmed that Hershey’s makes it. I asked if they make their soft serve and the two women looked a bit surprised by the question and said, “No, sorry.”
The sign advertised Dole pineapple soft serve, so we decided to share a cup of that twisted with vanilla. It was nice and refreshing.
As we sat and ate in confusion as to why this was on the list, I did some research. According to VisitPA/scoops, they do make their soft serve mix from PA milk. Whew!
A bonus for this stop was seeing a trail marked Appalachian Trail Conservancy, so we knew we were close to the AT! (Not sure if this was actually part of the AT or just a connector to it.)
