A seven-minute drive took us to Merrymead Farm. They have a small store with baked goods, jams, chips including Charles Chips, Beeman’s chewing gum (although not teaberry flavor), and more. They are selling their scooped ice cream only through the outside window.
I almost splurged and picked Moo Latte Explosion – coffee ice cream with toffee and chocolate covered espresso beans. It sounded so good. Yet, I’m in this for the long haul which means lots of ice cream for four more days. So I took the prudent yet curious flavor of Sweet Cream and Honey in a pee-wee cup. Tasty and light. Good choice for my sixth serving of ice cream today. Side note: Gregg just reminded me that we still have almost half a gallon Orange Pineapple ice cream in our cooler. Oh, my!
Gregg ordered Banana Peanut Butter Chip, banana ice cream with chocolate chips and peanut butter ribbons. This flavor combo is Gregg’s favorite. In this specific ice cream, he would have preferred more chocolate and a stronger banana flavor with less peanut butter. The PB ribbon made it sweet and rich.
We would like to figure out how to put peanut butter in ice cream without the ice cream getting a greasy mouth feel. The Fluffernutter Banana earlier today did not seem greasy even though the ice cream base had 17% milkfat.
We sat at a picnic table outside under a nice shade tree to eat. Afterwards, we chose a hotel for tonight.
Before leaving, we looked around the store and left with a bag of Charles Chips. The Charles Chips man delivered cans of chips to our house when I was in elementary school. I’m experiencing a nostalgic moment.
Now that the chips are gone, we are headed into downtown Philadelphia. Tomorrow is a tourist day!
Thanks for following along with us on our adventures!
