England/Scotland 2024 Pilgrimage – Day 19: London September 20, 2024December 19, 2024Thursday, September 19, 2024Hiya!We planned a relaxing and reflective day today. It didn’t go quite as planned. No worries, it got sorted in the end.Aunt Kitten Visits LondonAunt Kitten had stayed in the dorm room all week so today was her day to sight-see!Last Fortitude Bakehouse VisitWe took our time in the morning, then headed to Fortitude Bakehouse. They begin selling their signature pastry, beignets, at 11:00. Since we arrived before that time, the line was short. We each got something (typing fast, no time to look up the name now) that was a thick piece of bread with a yogurt cream, zucchini (?) and green olives hidden somewhere, giving it a lovely flavor. Yum!For sweet, Gregg got a square pastry with Raspberries. I had an coconut and almond muffin type thing that tasted like a macaroon. Oh.My.Goodness! Probably my favorite Fortitude item we ate. They were out of their black olive twists so I hoped to return on Friday since our flight wasn’t until 5:30pm . As you will find out, that plan got canceled.Anglican Anglo-Catholic ChurchOur Most Holy Redeemer Church in Clerkenwell is an Anglo-Catholic church. We hadn’t visited one yet so we chose this church for 12:30 Eucharist service.Arriving early, we waited in a park. That’s when things changed. We got texts and emails from Delta informing us that they were very sorry for the inconvenience, but our flight had been canceled. Welp!We chose to deal with it after the service. I’m so glad we did because we had a wonderful conversation with the priest afterwards. There were only 4 people in the service.New Flight PlanAfter the service, we returned to our room to spend a few hours sorting our return flight. In the end, we have a 9:30am flight on Air France to Paris then on to Dulles. Though we have to make a connection, we will arrive in DC a few hours earlier than the original flight.Kensington ParkWe then celebrated by eating our Fortitude sweets and walking around Kensington Park. We went back to Hoop and Toy PubOops: Our flight to Paris is about to take off. Got to post this and turn off phone.Underground Labyrinth ArtPS – Each of the 270 (!) London Underground stations has a different Labyrinth somewhere on the wall. Several caught my eye as we were moving about the city. I love labyrinths. (We walked on on Iona.) I wish I had known earlier that they were part of an art project and that each station had one. It would be a fun scavenger hunt. Next time. (Since they are permanent – on a large piece of tile, incorporated with the other subway tiles.) 2024 England/Scotland Pilgrimage Aunt Kitten Books Travels Aunt KittenChurchesGreat BritainTravels
