Over the river and through the woods to Widnoon Soft Serve we go….
We drove an hour and 15 minutes to the Village of Widnoon, outside of Templeton, PA. Templeton is an old town on a hill which has “Company” row houses overlooking a huge power station smoke stack across the river.
Around 3:30, my body was craving something besides carbs so we both ate some almonds. I also needed “a facility” but since many places are no longer offering public restrooms due to COVID-19, I knew my chances of finding relief were slim to none.
After going up and down narrow windy roads with zero cell service (were we back in Ireland?), we came to an intersection with a gas station on one side, the ice cream store on the other side, and Gators abounding (upgraded 4-wheeler/golf carts.)
Good news! A Port-A-Jon and cell service on the hill by the creamery!
Widnoon Soft Serve is a walk-up-to-the-window stand. They have two soft serve machines. One makes chocolate, vanilla, and twist. The other has “flavors of the week” which are currently blueberry, pomegranate, and twist.
We knew what we wanted, having looked at their website and Facebook page… ICE CREAM NACHOS!!! Yes, it filled up a rectangular to-go box. And, yes, we shared one.
But first…there are infinite ways to order … you get to select your ice cream flavor/s and any toppings from the sundae list and the “tornado” list – candies, cookies, etc.
Gregg is this foodie’s dream husband. He is great at picking items from a menu that I overlook yet are delicious. He created nachos with blueberry pomegranate twist topped with blueberry sauce and Reeses Pieces. I added Nutter Butter Cookies. It was then crowned with whipped cream and chopped peanuts.
The fruity flavor was delicious and refreshing. I didn’t think it was possible to be glad I WASN’T eating more chocolate. We were quite happy with our selection.
