Stats: 15 hours driving, 830 miles driven, Winnipeg (Manitoba) to Edmonton, Alberta
Pull out the map pins! As of today, we have been in all 10 Canadian Provinces and 1 Territory (Yukon.) Not sure we’ll ever get to the other two territories – wayyyy up north.
It was another long day of driving. God bless the farmers! We passed miles and miles of yellow rapeseed fields. Those of you who’ve been in my home know I LOVE yellow – these fields were cheerful and a delight to travel through.
The weather was beautiful, sunny, cool, and buggy. Oops, I guess that isn’t the weather, but it does require windshield wiper use.
We began the day in Manitoba, drove all the way through Saskatchewan, and are now in Alberta. Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper are in this province. We are about four hours away from Jasper so tomorrow will be a “short” travel day. Yay!
Louise Penny kept us entertained as we listened to her latest Chief Inspector Gamache book, A World of Curiosities. She can weave an intriguing “who done it.” Our guesses keep changing. We will find out in three more hours of listening.
We found some delicious Foothills Creamery, 100% Canadian ice cream this evening! We got flavors with local berries like Saskatoon Pie and Haskap Prairie Berry. Yum!! Nice flavor, texture, and temperature.
At 10:30pm Mountain Time (we changed times zones again today), it was still twilight. I asked the woman who checked us into the hotel what tie it begins to get light in the morning. She said around 4:00 a.m. For some reason, I find “white nights” fascinating. I can’t imagine surviving winters when it flips and they only have a few hours of daylight.
Wildlife sightings today:
- 4 prairie dogs – one (safely) ran across the road in front of us, one at our ice cream stop, and the other two were sitting on their hind legs in the middle of the road next to the center line. (This was two separate sightings, not two prairie dogs together.)
- 1 coyote ran across the road
- Gregg spotted several Magpies (black and white birds)
My computer is being rude and reminding me that it is 2am in Jacksonville. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for following!
I’ll post a video of photos in the morning. The file is still processing so I’ll sleep while it works. 🙂
