Total Trip Miles: 6,649 (map at bottom)
There’s no place like home!
I enjoyed sleeping in and easing into the day. Just after 10:00, we went a few miles down the road to visit a dear family friend. Diane and my mother became lifelong friends in kindergarden. She is “another mother” to many. It was special to spend an hour with her this morning before continuing our trek east.
We had hoped to see the Davis’ in St. Joseph, Michigan today, too, but they have been under the weather. Instead, Anne and I had a lovely conversation for about an hour on the phone while Gregg drove. Anne has been a prayer warrior for our family for decades. She, too, has a huge, beautiful heart. I’m so thankful Mom had loyal and loving friends.
As we drove, I read The Other Side of the Rainbow by Julie Cordova. I couldn’t believe that I finished right as we turned off the road into Markleysburg! It made the time go quickly yesterday and today.
You’ll never guess what we did an hour before arriving home. OK, you got it. We stopped for ice cream at Suzy’s in Mt. Pleasant. This is our second stop there this summer. I had a peanut butter sundae with was peanut butter ice cream with peanut butter sauce. Gregg had a milkshake with their flavor of the day – something like chocolate M&Ms and brownies. I know you’ve missed seeing pictures of ice cream lately.
The rental car is unloaded and most of our things have been put away. The Honda PIlot rental car worked out well and the gas mileage is better than our Edge. Gregg figures we averaged 30 miles per gallon of gas. We are glad we didn’t take the electric Volvo for numberous reasons, although we did miss some of its features.
Gregg is off work until Monday. After a good night’s sleep, we’ll talk about what we want to do during the stay-cation portion of his vacation time. I suspect, if the weather holds out, we’ll spend time on the GAP (rails-to-trails path) in Ohiopyle or other towns close by.
Thanks again for joining us vicariously!
