Our Honda Pilot rental car is packed up with space to spare (wow!) and the alarm is set for 5:00 a.m. We are ready to get this vacation started!
Last year we went north east into Canada and headed to Newfoundland and the easternmost point of North America. It was a delightful trip and we wondered why we had never put Canada higher on our “to visit” list. There are an abundance of awesome places to visit there.
So, to remedy this lack of Canadian experience, we are heading north to Toronto and then 5-hours north of that to North Bay to MEET and visit my writing friend, Rev. Marie. We’ll go to church with them and later Sunday afternoon, we will begin our long trek west to Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper. Google Maps says that is over 3,000 miles and over 30 hours of driving. (A big reason for taking a rental car and not the electric vehicle.)
Thus, we are “winging it” this vacation. We have a hotel room reserved for tomorrow night and that’s it. Gregg loves this style of travel. I’d prefer to know that we have a place to sleep, yet I completely understand that it is difficult to plan. So, I let him worry about the next stop. We’ll have pillows and blankets and if there is “no room at the inn” where we stop, we can sleep in the car, right? It’s an adventure!
We plan to return to the USA via Glacier National Park, then head to Grand Tetons. Then, back to PA – the route is yet to be determined.
Now you know the full extent of our travel plans as of this moment.
We both love being awed with God’s creation and being outside. And we’re looking forward to listening to audiobooks (the most recent Chief Inspector Gamache book by Louise Penny is first on the playlist.) It will be great to be together, be away from the routine, have relaxed conversations, and visit places we’ve never been before.
If you would like to receive an email each morning at 6am with descriptions and pictures of the previous day’s adventures, please sign up for my mailing list. You can find it here: at the bottom of my website’s home page.
Good night! 5am is coming quickly!
