Basseterre, St. Kitts – Norwegian Gem Caribbean Cruise 2026 February 23, 2026February 23, 2026Monday, February 23, 2025We finally figured out where St. Kitts is located. It is approximately due west from Antigua. As logic would predict, we have experienced the weather getting hotter the closer to the equator we get. At noon today on Basseterre, St. Kitts, it is 86 degrees and feels like 93 due to the humidity. From the ship, we could see a church. You won’t be surprised to know that we headed in that direction when we got off the ship around 8:30am. Sadly, it was shuttered up. The sign said it is an Anglican Pro-Cathedral. The grounds are nicely groomed so I suspect they hold services on Sunday. There is another Anglican Church in town so we put it on our list of places to explore, hoping it would be open for prayer. Our walking adventure took us to Independence Square, a large local park with a fountain, an open Catholic Church, past many local businesses, a farmers’ market, along many narrow streets, a large sportsplex where they play cricket, soccer, and other sports, a shuttered-for-now Methodist Church, and we finally found the other Anglican Church which is smaller than the first and also locked with shutters closed.By 11:00, we were hot and tired so we returned to the ship. We only had to do a lap or so on Deck 7 to reach out 4-mile daily walking goal. The back buffet and seating area is closed while they move the furniture and completely scrub down the floors, so we are enjoying the view and air conditioning inside.Tomorrow we’ll be in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In the mean time, time to read! I’m revisiting my youth by reading two Nancy Drew books. The Secret of the Old Clock is the first book in the series of the original 56 books written between 1930 and 2003.The other Nancy Drew book I brought is #39: The Clue of the Dancing Puppet. I remember reading it in our Cocoa, Florida, home which would put me in the 4th-6th grade age range. It gave me nightmares; a ballerina danced around my bedroom while I slept. That was the end of my interest in Nancy Drew books. I’m curious to discover why it scared me so badly. 2026 Caribbean Cruise from Jacksonville Travels CaribbeanChurchesTravels
